Singaporean manufacturer presents autostereoscopic displays
Sunny Ocean Studios is ready to show its glasses-free 3D displays at the CeBIT trade fair in Hanover this March. The technology should make it possible to adapt existing monitors to display 3D signals.
February 3, 2010 — In a statement released yesterday, the Singapore-based manufacturer Sunny Ocean Studios has outlined its vision for 3D displays that require no special glasses for stereoscopic viewing. The technology allows viewers to see images from 64 different perspectives, and uses optics in the screens themselves — instead of glasses — to deliver the correct images to each eye.
The company is currently developing what it says is the only 3D cinema in the world in which viewers won’t need to wear glasses. The Singaporean manufacturer will present the same technology in significantly more compact 27-inch displays early this March at the CeBIT 2010 — an annual consumer-electronics trade fair that takes place in Hanover, Germany.

Sunny Ocean Studios’ technology can convert current 2D monitors into 3D-ready screens.
This technology turns away from the home-cinema industry’s current favourite techniques — active “shutter glasses” and polarised passive filter glasses, which many viewers have reportedly found uncomfortable to use. For a full discussion of 3D technology, check out 3D TV Explained.
