Samsung TVs follow Sony to offer LOVEFiLM access

Samsung’s latest HDTVs now offer access to the movie-rental service LOVEFiLM, allowing subscribers to stream movies via the internet directly to their TV screen.

May 19, 2010 — Movie lovers can now access thousands of titles via the latest Samsung HDTVs, according to reports on various online news portals. TVs from recent Samsung series (C650, C750, C6500, C6510, C6600, C6900, C7000, C8000, C9000) offer the capability, which is also available in some of Sony’s year-2010 Bravia TVs. Those already subscribed to LOVEFiLM will be able to enjoy the additional feature for free. The service’s website currently offers access to nearly 70,000 Film & TV titles.

Sony users with TVs from the NX803, EX703, and HX703 Bravia series can also enjoy the service, as can those using a Sony BDP-S730 Blu-ray player. Samsung hasn’t yet activated the feature in any of its Blu-ray players, but reportedly plans to do so later this year.

The Samsung and Sony devices all require a broadband internet connection (via a router) in order to access the service, and, according to the technology-news site Pocket-Lint, Samsung recommends a connection speed of at least 1 Mbps. For many users, however, that should pose no problem, since Virgin Media now offers broadband speeds of up to 50 Mbps.
