Newsflash: Sony helps users go eco-friendly with new website section

A week after being named as the world’s greenest company for 2009, Sony has launched a new eco section of its website to educate consumers on saving energy when using consumer appliances.

February 8, 2010 — Last week, Environmental Graffiti named Sony as the greenest company in the world for the year 2009, citing the manufacturer’s commitment to eco-friendly projects and consistent implication of energy-saving technologies in its consumer devices. Sony has now followed up on this news by launching a revamped eco section of its website. People visiting Sony eco can learn about the company’s environmentally friendly products and manufacturing processes, as well as reading tips on how to cut down power consumption. The tips include TV-related advice such as “Turn down the brightness” — Sony claims that doing so can, over a year, save you an amount of energy equivalent to running 60 wash loads. If you don’t believe them, the Japanese company also provides details of the calculations. Televisions.com has touched on similar topics in the past: Specifically, our article Power-Saving TV Technologies offers detailed advice on cutting power consumption in the home cinema.
