Newsflash: Sky announces new set-top box with 1TB memory

by Televisions.com Germany on 01/29/2010

In an announcement yesterday, BSkyB gave details of its new Sky+HD receiver, which provides up to 240 hours of recording capacity.

January 29, 2010 — British satellite broadcaster BSkyB has announced the release of the next generation of its Sky+HD set-top box. Customers can now look forward to a terabyte (1000 gigabytes) of storage space for digital recordings. This is four times as much as in Sky’s current HD box, and will allow users to record up to 240 hours of content in high definition. Sky also announced that it will phase out its entry-level standard-definition receiver, making the current Sky+HD box the standard device for new Sky subscribers from yesterday onwards. Any new Sky customers that also subscribe to Sky’s HD package will receive the current box for free — but this new 1TB box reportedly costs 249 GBP, plus installation charges. Both boxes will be able to receive Sky’s 3D channel when broadcasts begin later this year.
