In the grip of the global finance crisis, Japanese electronics-giants Sony and Sharp have announced future collaboration on panel production.

August 3, 2009 - It's official: Sony will give financial support to Sharp's new 10G panel production facility in Sakai City, with plans to transfer 10 billion Japanese Yen (around 63 million GBP) this December to the Sharp Display Products Corporation (SDP). This will be followed by numerous further investments, in return for which Sony will gain access to the panels manufactured in the new facility. With a 66-percent share, Sharp will retain a majority stake in the Joint Venture.
