LG OLED TV set for UK launch this April
LG Electronics has said its new 15-inch OLED TV, the 15EL9500, will go on sale in the UK this April. Eager OLED fans can check the TV out at Gadget Show Live this week in Birmingham.
April 8, 2010 — According to an official statement released yesterday, LG will make its new 15EL9500, an OLED TV, available in the UK this month. The manufacturer is also showcasing the TV, which will be the largest OLED TV available to UK consumers, at Gadget Show Live in Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC).
OLED TVs use ultra-thin layers of so-called Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) to deliver a picture that’s both contrast-rich and vivid, and which displays motion more sharply than traditional LCD TVs. Televisions based on OLED technology are expected to be more energy-efficient and — because they don’t need a backlight — extremely slender.
The 15EL9500 has a 15-inch screen with a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, as well as a built-in Freeview tuner and a USB 2.0 socket for multimedia playback. LG has clearly realised that this TV is ideal for kitchen worktops, and the screen is therefore water-resistant — quite an unusual feature in an HDTV.

LG’s 15-inch 15 EL 9500 picks up where Sony’s 11-inch XEL-1 left off, increasing the screen diagonal and upping the resolution to HD.
