Japanese electronics company Panasonic presents prototypes of the first 3D plasma TVs and accompanying 3D glasses.

October 9, 2009 — Panasonic has developed a 50-inch, Full HD, 3D plasma display, allowing you, with the help of special glasses, to view 3D movies. The prototypes were first introduced at Japan’s CEATEC 2009 electronics trade fair.

The Japanese company sees this as the forerunner to a new trend, which was also in evidence at this year’s IFA fair in Berlin: Soon, the first 3D TVs will arrive in the living room. In 2010, Panasonic hopes to be the first company in the world to bring Full HD, 3D TVs to the market.

3D TVs from Panasonic: the next big thing could arrive as soon as next year.

The new displays have a special 3D controller that claims to provide ultra-fast pixel illumination. According, to Panasonic, this is supposed to prevent ‘ghosting’, while maintaining the same brightness. Up till now, ghosting often resulted from alternating between displaying images for the left and right eyes. Special 3D glasses now precisely control the right-left switching. The godfather of the new technology’s development was the world’s first plasma home-cinema system, comprising a 103-inch screen and a Blu-ray player.

And that’s the system that Panasonic is putting on display in its 3D road show, which will be doing the rounds in England for the final three months of 2009, providing a first glimpse into this forthcoming technology. Besides 3D videos in Full HD and trailers for the latest 3D movies, you can also feast your eyes on current TVs and Blu-ray players on the following dates:
