Chuckles at Televisions.com's Germany bureau: Hannspree presents an LCD TV with apple styling - yes, the fruit! But is there a worm inside?

July 20, 2009 - Sleek, black, and stylish? No chance: After all, everyone makes TVs like that! Taiwanese manufacturer Hannspree, renowned for its whacky TV models, is rolling out more bizarre creations just in time for this year's IFA trade fair. One example puts a 28-inch LCD screen in an apple-shaped casing!

Technical details were few and far between in the company's press release - we found no information whatsoever about the screen's resolution, the contrast ratio, or the unit's connectivity.

On inquiring with Hannspree, we did manage to establish that the apple-TV displays Full HD resolution and claims a contrast-ratio of 10,000:1. But let's be realistic: Anyone dolling up their living room with a fruit-shaped TV probably won't care if it's got HDMI or 24p.

All-rounder: Even the back panel keeps up the fruity theme.

Hannspree also has other models up its sleeve to present at the IFA, including - wait for it! - a 19-inch model disguised as a zebra, giraffe, or polar bear. Ideal kid's-birthday territory!
