3D TVs On Sale in the US This Week

by Televisions.com Germany on 03/09/2010

A surprise announcement by Panasonic has brought forward the expected arrival of 3D TV on the US market; according to reports on various online news portals, the first of the manufacturer’s 3D TVs will go on sale tomorrow via branches of Best Buy.

March 9, 2010 — Let the games begin: Panasonic and Best Buy have teamed up to bring 3D TVs to the US consumer market from this Wednesday, well in advance of expected models from other major manufacturers. Best Buy will begin selling the 3D TVs at stores across the US tomorrow, many of which will also have demonstration units so that potential buyers can try out the technology for themselves. A launch event will be held at the Best Buy store in central New York City.

The VT25 series of plasma TVs is expected to start at about 2,500 USD (1,700 GBP), but there’s no more word on the price of the required 3D glasses, which have so far been reported to cost at least 100 USD (70 GBP) a pair. It remains to be seen how popular the new TVs will be at first, considering the lack of 3D content available to the general public.
