Japanese electronics company Sony has announced several new 3D products in the Blu-ray sector. The company presented the first models at the CES in January.
February 11, 2010 — There’s no doubt about it: 3D is all the rage. Last month, Sony presented its first 3D products, such as the standalone BDP-S770 Blu-ray player and the BDV-IZ1000W Blu-ray home-cinema system. Both are expected to hit the market in mid-2010. But there’s much more on its way, according to an announcement by Sony yesterday: In the course of the year, Sony will release a number of 3D players and home-cinema systems, including the BDP-S470, a Blu-ray player that will gain 3D support in a forthcoming software update. The pricier BDP-S770 and BDP-S570, on the other hand, will already be 3D compatible when they leave the factory.

With the BDP-S470, it’ll cost just 250 Euros (220 GBP) to make the leap into the 3D era.
All of the models listed below will also offer 3D playback: Indeed, all of Sony’s home-cinema packages will be 3D compatible. This means that Sony’s entire Blu-ray line-up will fall under the 3D banner. All home-cinema systems and players will also offer direct access to “BRAVIA Internet Video”, Sony’s online video portal. Besides YouTube, this platform will include access to BBC iPlayer from March onwards, allowing viewers to catch up with TV they’ve missed over the previous seven days. Internet access via WLAN is on board — only the BDP-S470 will need a WiFi stick (available separately). And, thanks to a DLNA client, the players will also be able to play back media files over a PC network.
