Piixl EdgeCenter 3770 turns your flat-panel TV into a media centre PC

London-based start-up Piixl has announced plans to release a new slim-line multimedia PC that attaches to standard VESA mounting positions on flat-panel TVs.
December 14, 2009 — In a statement released in the last few days, UK manufacturer Piixl has published specifications for a new media-center PC. Specifically, the EdgeCenter 3770 is a thee-centimetre-thick box that attaches to the screw-holes provided for wall brackets on the back of flat-panel TVs.
Since these mountings are standardised according to "VESA" specifications, the unit will fit the vast majority of modern TVs — although the company insists that you should contact them in advance to check whether it’ll fit your specific model.
As well as a disc drive for Blu-rays and DVDs, the EdgeCenter 3770 (pictured) hosts four USB inputs and a multi-card reader.
Far from just being a streaming-server device, the EdgeCenter 3770 is a fully functional computer running Windows 7. It also has a dual-core processor and comes with up to four TV tuners. Once attached to your TV, it’ll provide the full range of playback options — Blu-rays, DVDs, CDs, TV signals, multimedia files, computer games ... you name it! Other options include 7.1-channel audio output, so users with a home-cinema sound system will be able to enjoy the full benefit of Blu-ray discs.
The EdgeCenter 3770 comes in three versions that are tailored to different users’ needs, and is available immediately from Piixl’s website at the following prices. Piixl also ships the devices internationally.
