Newsflash: 3D Blu-ray players from Sony
A report claims that Sony plans to have 3D-capable BD players on the consumer market by late next year. Movie studios are, the company says, in final discussions over the format of the new 3D Blu-ray discs.
August 12, 2009 - The deputy senior general manager of Sony's Home Entertainment Group, Yoshinami Takahashi, said today that he expects 3D Blu-ray discs and players to be on the market in just over a year, reports CNET Australia. Once the movie studios agree on a format for the discs - a process which is expected to take until the end of 2009 - the Japanese manufacturer will require a further nine months, Takahashi predicts, to ready the technology for sale. This brings the expected date for their arrival to October or November 2010. For more information on 3D technology, see our background article 3D TV Explained.
