of a handheld camcorder — recommended!

PICTURE QUALITY:
Despite the camcorder-perspective, the movie looks outstandingly good. No wonder: After all, this ‘camcorder’ was a highly modern, Sony HD video camera. Although almost all scenes occur at night, the picture retains an excellent level of sharpness.

SOUND QUALITY:
Madness — after the first explosion, the surround effects just keep on coming! Never before has chaos — explosions, breaking glass, screaming people — sounded this realistic. The muffled noises of ‘the monster’ will have your hair standing on end.

BONUS MATERIAL:
Director’s commentary, a ‘making of’ (28:22), “Cloverfield Visual Effects” (22:32), “I Saw It! It’s Alive! It’s Huge!” (5:53), “Clover Fun” (3:56), deleted scenes (7:51). Particularly noteworthy is the “Special Investigation Mode”, which runs (optionally) during the movie and allows the viewer to see where the characters and the monster currently are on a map.
