Blu-ray Movie Review
Movie: The story of the legendary German fighter pilot Manfred von Richthofen, one of the best pilots of the First World War. Portrayed by Matthias Schweighöfer, von Richthofen falls in love with a nurse called Kate and becomes increasingly aware of the senselessness of war.

Televisions.com thinks:
A mixture of action, war, and romance —
visually imposing but lacking true depth.

PICTURE QUALITY:
The Cinemascope transfer has been given a First World War look, and impresses with good-to-excellent detail and edge sharpness. Particularly in bright, outdoor shots, the picture piles on plasticity and depth (for example, in the building’s façade at 22:07). Dark indoor shots don’t quite reach the same level.

SOUND QUALITY:
Wow! “The Red Baron” really sounds impressive: Numerous aerial battles provide some of the best movie sound we’ve heard in recent years. Planes growl from all channels with the utmost precision, making the listener feel like they’re smack-bang in the middle of the hail of bullets. On top of this, the movie offers a dynamic score, rich in surround effects — we’ve no choice but to award top marks.

BONUS MATERIAL:
Audio commentary, music video, trailer, blooper reel (4:10), deleted scenes (20:20), making of (21:41), “Making of the Visual Effects” (12:16), “Red Baron Diaries” (31:21) — a bit lacking, if you ask us!
