Top 10 Blu-ray Releases This June
We wade through the masses of forthcoming releases to give you our pick of the best films coming out on Blu-ray next month. And the winner is: the gangster film “A Prophet”, from the French director Jacques Audiard.
1. A Prophet (2009)
Starring Tahar Rahim as an illiterate young man beginning a lengthy prison term, this 2009 film earned rave reviews. Also stars Niels Arestrup and Gilles Cohen.

2. Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) 
This is the feature-film debut from the British graffiti artist Banksy, who’s best known for producing radical street art in cities all around the globe. The film gives a fascinating glimpse into the world of underground art.

3. Apollo 13 (1995) 
When a NASA mission to the moon goes disastrously wrong, the astronauts aboard Apollo 13 find themselves in mortal danger. The crew and the team at mission control must fight to bring the craft home safely. Starring Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon.

4. Ponyo (2009) 
From Academy Award winning Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, this animated film was inspired by the story of the little mermaid. First-rate kids entertainment.

5. Crazy Heart (2009) 
Jeff Bridges proves his acting prowess once again in this captivating anti-hero role. Bridges stars as a burnt-out country singer, badly in need of salvation. Also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal.

6. Micmacs (2009) 
From the director of Amelie, Micmacs tells the story of Bazil, a man orphaned at a young age and now working in a dead-end job. Following a freak accident, Bazil finds himself jobless and begins to plot revenge for his father’s death many years ago at the hands of arms manufacturers. Starring Danny Boon.

7. Where Eagles Dare (1969) 
This tale of WWII heroism stars Richard Burton as the man in charge of a team of Allied soldiers sent to rescue an American general. Clint Eastwood also appears — armed to the teeth — as Lieutenant Morris Schaffer.

8. Collateral (2004) 
Tom Cruise stars as a contract killer being hunted by the LAPD and FBI in this brilliant film from Academy Award nominee Michael Mann. A thriller of the highest order, also starring Jamie Foxx and Jada Pinkett Smith.

9. A Single Man (2009) 
Set during the Cuban missile crisis, this film directed by the fashion designer Tom Ford stars Colin Firth in one of his best roles yet. Firth plays a professor slowly coming to terms with the death of his long-term partner. Also stars Julianne Moore and Nicholas Hoult.

10. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3D (2009) 
One for any readers who’ve splashed out on a new 3D TV and 3D Blu-ray player. This hilarious animated adventure from Sony Pictures Animation is classic fun-for-the-whole-family fodder. Also available on 2D Blu-ray.
