Newsflash: Reports herald tide of 3D movies

Numerous reports of forthcoming 3D films and rereleases have appeared online. Titles include “Toy Story 2”, “Clash of the Titans” and, if rumours are to be believed, “Ghostbusters 3”.

January 22, 2010 — Reports on various news websites are signalling the arrival of a number of 3D films. The 3D rerelease of “Toy Story 2” appears in British cinemas for two weeks from today, and has already got the thumbs-up from a number of reviewers. Rumours quoted by entertainment-news website Nerdles suggest that “Ghostbusters 3”, which is planned for release in 2012, will be filmed in 3D. Online entertainment portal Digital Spy reports that Warner Brothers is considering converting the forthcoming 2D release “Clash of the Titans” into 3D. The website says this would take place in advance of the film’s planned release date this March. Elsewhere, a widely quoted interview with “Star Wars” creator George Lucas suggests that the director was impressed by the 3D effects seen in box-office hit “Avatar”, and might now rerelease “Star Wars” in 3D. Lucas hinted at this in the past, but the producer of the films’ prequels, Rick McCallum, had explained that any such project would only take off when 3D technology becomes affordable for the general public.
