In a conference with broadcasting company Fox, Rupert Murdoch has reportedly confirmed that the Blu-ray release of “Avatar” will hit shelves before the end of June 2010.

February 4, 2010 — With “Avatar” still drawing vast crowds at cinemas, Rupert Murdoch has said that the Blu-ray will go on sale by the end of June this year. Murdoch’s News Corporation owns 20th Century Fox, the studio behind “Avatar”. He also said that the initial Blu-ray release will only be in 2D, with a 3D Blu-ray to follow later in the year. James Cameron, the film’s director, was reported as saying similar in December last year — according to a report on Blu-ray.com, the director said in an interview with MTV: “We will have a 3D disc when there are enough sets available.” Murdoch also reportedly put the later 3D release down to the limited current availability of 3D-ready TVs.
