“Johnny English 2” to begin filming this summer
Universal Pictures has confirmed plans to make a sequel to “Johnny English”, according to online reports. “Mr. Bean” star Rowan Atkinson will once again play the lead character, a bungling British secret agent.
April 9, 2010 — If you like parody films, you’ll be pleased to hear that Universal Pictures will once again team up with the legendary British comedian Rowan Atkinson to make “Johnny English 2”, the second instalment in the story of a haphazard spy. The original “Johnny English”, released in 2003, grossed 160m USD worldwide but earned largely negative reviews. Oliver Parker will take the director’s chair and will presumably be hoping to improve upon the first film’s popularity. That said, however, both “Johnny English” and Parker’s recent film “St. Trinian’s” coincidentally scored just 33 percent on film-reviews site Rotten Tomatoes. This probably doesn’t bode well for Johnny English’s second outing.
