David Baddiel’s new comedy “The Infidel” tells the story of a Muslim man who undergoes an identity crisis when he discovers he was born Jewish.
April 8, 2010 — In a new comedy film written by British comedian David Baddiel, Mahmud Nasir is a not-so-devout Muslim played by Omid Djalili. Nasir discovers that he was actually born Jewish and then adopted into a Muslim family, and struggles to come to terms with his new religious identity. He turns to a Jewish taxi driver for help — starting with dancing lessons. Baddiel says he wrote the story as a classic life-swap story, and that he thinks the best way to tackle the fear surrounding race and religion issues is to learn to laugh about them. “The Infidel” begins showing in UK cinemas tomorrow, April 9.
