The friendly ogre “Shrek” will soon be making us laugh in three dimensions, beginning with the fourth film in the series, “Shrek Forever After”, which will appear in cinemas in 3D this July. All four films will then be released on 3D Blu-ray for enjoyment in the home cinema.
April 16, 2010 — The new “Shrek” film will hit UK cinemas in early July in both 2D and 3D versions. The first three animated films featuring the lovable ogre are currently only available in 2D, but this will soon change, according to DreamWorks boss Jeffrey Katzenberg. At a trade fair in Las Vegas, he briefly discussed plans to convert the first three “Shrek” films into 3D.

“Shrek 3” will also soon be appearing in 3D.
Katzenberg said the careful 3D-conversion process will cost about 20m USD (13m GBP) per film and take a good 18 months. The first three films won’t therefore appear in the home cinema in 3D until at least 2012.
